There are two levels of Membership.
Level one is a General Membership. The benefits of a General Membership are:
- Use our Visa and Master Card Account to accept payment at shows and exhibitions in which you may participate
- Take advantage of discounts at some of our workshops
- Take advantage of discounts offered by some retailers
- Benefit from a free listing on our website, including text and 3 pictures per year of membership ...additional pictures may be added at the modest cost of $10.00 each.
- Take advantage of the trails on this beautiful property for sketching or plein air painting or just enjoy a stroll through the bush. (Note: Smoking and dogs are prohibited on the trails due to fire hazard in the bush and the need not to disturb wildlife who make their home there.)
- Members will receive e-mails announcing upcoming open Juried Exhibitions which they may wish to enter; e-mails regarding art events of interest being presented in the area and other material deemed to be of interest to artists in general.
The cost of a General Membership is $50.00
Level two is an Exhibiting Membership which permits an Artist to exhibit work in the Gallery for the season. The spaciousness of the Gallery permits suitable display areas for various media, be it paintings, glass, pottery, textiles, woodworking, jewellery etc. The work of all exhibiting artists must go through a jurying process. Any display structures brought in must also be approved.
Exhibiting Members will have an opportunity to choose their exhibition space, based on what is available when they join. Spaces may be changed as the opportunity arises. Artists are encouraged to keep their displays fresh and attractive by rearranging and/or changing their material regularly. Artists understand that their work may be used for advertising purposes by the Gallery.
Work may not be removed before the end of the Season.
When there is extra space available a selection of all Members' work will be hung in these spaces until the space is taken by a new Member.
The cost for exhibiting work in the Gallery is $375.00 per season (May to mid-November) payable $200.00 by December 1 and $175.00 payable May 1. This figure includes the Membership fee.
All Guest Artists must have a General Membership. Guest Artists may have the use of the Guest Artist's exhibition space for approximately one month, and may exhibit more than once a season if they wish and if the space is available. Their Press Release will be documented on the Guest Artist page on the website . This information will remain for the balance of the Season.
The work of all Guest Artists must be juried by sending 3 to 5 digital images to firstname.lastname@example.org . This applies only if their work has not been juried previously for inclusion in the Gallery or if their medium has changed.
The cost of being a Guest Artist is $60.00 in addition to the Membership Fee. A 20 % commission is taken on sales and credit card charges apply in every case. The space set aside for Guests Artists is the space at the top of the stairs...the first thing a visitor sees as he/she enters the Upper Gallery.
The Gallery will advertise these events, free of charge in the following : the Wellington Artists' Gallery and Art Centre Newsletter, on the websites of the Gallery; Arts Milton; What's On Where (CKCO-TV). Press Releases written by the Guest Artists will be sent to the 'Communique' of the Elora Arts Council; the Guelph Arts Council; the newsletter of the Central Ontario Art Association (COAA) when possible; the Guelph Mercury; the Fergus Elora News Express including its 4 associate newspapers ...the Arthur Enterprise News...the Minto Express...the Independent Plus...and the Mount Forest Confederate; The Tribune ; The Wellington Advertiser; the K-W Record; Grand River Artists; Grand Valley Times; the Ontarion; CJOY, CHYM, Magic 106.1; FM98.5 CKWR; Facebook; What's On in CW. The Gallery will place the notice of each artist's exhibition on The Zine (internet) if the artist so wishes. The cost of this advertising is $75.00 for four weeks. E-Flyers may also be sent.
Set-up and take-down of exhibitions will normally take place on week-ends unless other arrangements are made.
The Gallery encourages the Guest Artists to make and distribute their own flyers to promote their exhibition and e-mail their own clients. If the artist so wishes the Gallery will add the names of artist's clients to the Gallery mailing list and e-mails announcing the exhibition will be sent out to all newsletter recipients automatically.
The Gallery also recommends that the Guest Artist hold an Opening Reception for the exhibition at the Gallery. The date of the reception will be included in the notices placed in publications.
Featured Artist / Artist Groups
It is not necessary to be a Member to hold an exhibition in the Lower Gallery. As with a Featured Artist this space is available on a period of approximately one month. The work of individuals must be juried. Artist Groups must be groups whose work is known to the Gallery and the person assuming responsibility for the exhibition must ensure that the work presented is appropriate and of a quality in keeping with the work of Artist Members who are exhibiting in the Upper Gallery.
Featured Artist/ Artist Groups are required to have an Opening Reception. The same free advertising will be provided as is provided to Guest Artists. Those holding exhibitions are encouraged to do their own advertising as well. As with all sales of all those who are exhibiting a 20% commission applies. Credit Card charges also apply.
The cost of the use of the Lower Gallery is $125.00 per period.
Works of Individual Artists Members:
In the ARTISTS' GALLERIES area of this website you will find the works of individual member artists. The artists can be contact through our FEEDBACK FORM.
Applications and Payment of Fees:
Applications for both General and Exhibiting Memberships may be downloaded from this website (see links below). Once completed they may be e-mailed to the Gallery, sent by Canada Post or hand delivered. Fees may be paid by cheque, cash or by credit card using the payment forms found at the bottom of the applications.
Hours of Operation:
The Gallery is open from May to November, inclusive, seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
All artists exhibiting in the Gallery are required to do Gallery Duty, which generally speaking, will be a minimum of one day a month. There will be occasions and special events where additional personnel is required and additional volunteer hours or days will be requested .
Members are required to serve on Committees to display work at outside venues and to run events on the Gallery property.
The Gallery is equipped with a monitored security system. Each exhibiting artist will have his/her own code for the system. As well, a surveillance system is in place. The Gallery does not provide insurance for artists' work. While Wellington Artists' Gallery and Art Centre endeavours to safeguard all work in the Gallery, artists place their work in the Gallery at their own risk.
Workshops in various media will be conducted throughout the season. Some very skilled members of the Gallery as well as outside instructors are anxious to share their talents and knowledge. Notices of the dates and applications for these workshops will be posted on the website early in the season. Members may receive a discount on some workshops.
