Another Successful Season Comes To A Close! Thank you to everyone who made 2014 one of our most exciting years so far.
We look forward to seeing you again when we open for our 8th season, in May 2015.
It is with a sad heart that we are saying goodbye to Beryl Dawson, the owner of the Wellington Artists’ Gallery and Art Centre. Beryl passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9th from a short battle with cancer. The Gallery will not be the same without her.
Her endless energy, enthusiasm and hard work along with her husband Emery, made the Gallery what it is today. She had a dream 8 years ago and she brought that dream to life and we as artists at the gallery benefited from her dedication and encouragement. She will truly be missed by all. She asked that the Gallery be kept open and running and with the help of all our members here, we plan on doing just that. Our 2014 Season is drawing to a close but we hope you will continue to support us in 2015 and in the future years to come.
Our Members have been working diligently all winter creating new work for this Opening Exhibition which has been named 'Reflections'. The Lower Gallery will display all this new work. Members at the same time will be displaying in their regular spaces in the Upper Gallery.
We are planning a very varied and interesting program for 2014. All our Guest Artist spots and Featured Artist exhibitions for 2014 were booked early in 2013. Unfortunately there were artists and artists' groups we could not accommodate. As a result we have bookings for 2015.
Our Members work in many media....... painting, sculpture, drawing, textiles, pottery, glass/mosaics, photography, carving and jewelry. One will find that the Members change their work frequently in the Gallery so the presentation is always new and fresh. Our Sculpture Park is a popular feature and offers some unique outdoor pieces.
During the past year we have continued to bring art to the people. Wolfe Smith and Forster at 140 St. Andrews Street in Fergus is again graciously permitting us to use their store front window for a display in May. We have regular displays in the Guelph Public Libraries. In 2014 we are planning another exhibition at Aboyne Library. Last year our work there was very well received. We also have work on an on-going basis in the Brew House in Fergus and in Knapps' Country Market on County Road 124. All the five branches of Meridian Credit Union showcase our work. As well Butcher Furniture in Hillsburgh has our artists' work on display.
Our Members continue to be committed to supporting the community by participating in local events. We again will be taking part in the Lions' Club Home and Leisure Show; Colwyn Farms Rare and Fancy Poultry Show; and during Culture Days we present workshops for children....really a fun day for kids of all ages. Our Juried Exhibitions held in October have attracted many local artists and provided a venue where those who are successful may get some recognition by displaying their work. Artists are invited to watch for our Call for Entry and participate once more in this popular art event.
We are forever grateful for the support we receive from the local community, from those who make the Gallery their destination and from the tourists who stop as they pass through the area. Our Membership looks forward to welcoming both loyal frequent visitors and those who are finding us for the first time. Come and enjoy your day. Spend time in the sculpture park; bring a picnic lunch if you wish and enjoy our beautiful property. We are looking forward to sharing a great 2014 with you.
